Kirksville has industrial based jobs that span from entry level to high-tech, advanced manufacturing. We have quality dimension wood production, health care equipment and wireless sensor production. The wide variety of our manufacturing adds strength to a very diverse economic base with concentrations in education and healthcare.
Our manufacturing jobs base consists of about 1,400 employees, the healthcare industry consists of 800 employees, and an educational industry adds another 1,500 employees. The strength of our industrial base is not only these 3,700 wage earners, but the strength of our diversity.
Area Industry
The Healthcare and Education industries are the pillars of support upon which our community is built. However, manufacturing, retail trade and agriculture/agri-business contribute to Kirksville’s strong, diversified economic base. Adair Foods, a Kraft facility, is Kirksville’s largest manufacturer. Adair Foods produces center cut bacon and ham supplied by Farmland Industries, a pork slaughtering and processing facility just 30 miles to the west in Milan, Missouri. Commercial Envelope, a subsidiary of Cenveo, Inc., produces high quantities of envelopes. Hollister, Inc. is a medical products manufacturer and fits well into a community steeped in healthcare.
Industrial Park
The Kirksville City Industrial Park is owned by the City of Kirksville. We have just a few originally platted lots left. However, we do have other lots in the Park under City ownership and control that may present other opportunities. We welcome you to explore these green site offerings. Most of these lots are commercial size and have complete city utilities on site or within easy access.
More About Industry
Maritz Research, an outbound call center, is one of Kirksville’s newest major employers. Ortech Company is U-Shinn of Japan’s only American facility. They manufacture electronic key fobs and ignition assemblies. Western’s Smokehouse is located just 5 miles North of Kirksville, and has received numerous state and national awards for their meat products. Reliant Hardwood is a supplier of high quality hardwoods for furniture and floor applications. WireCo WorldGroup, formerly Wire Rope Corporation of America, has had a longstanding operation in Kirksville.
