Kirksville is proud of our educational system and has been a leader in educational ideas from early on.

Joseph Baldwin worked to create a Normal school here in the 1800's. Since its inception by Baldwin, the school remains as Truman State University.

A.T. Still had a heavy influence in the area of Medical Education. The University bearing his name is the birthplace of Osteopathic Medicine and is located here in Kirksville.

The home to an award winning and consistently state award recognized Pre-K to 12 school system, partnered with a state of the art career and technical center, as well as three centers of higher education, Kirksville prides itself on a high quality of education. From preschool to pre-med, Kirksville's outstanding educational system provides limitless opportunities for students.

Kirksville R-III School District

The mission of the Kirksville Public School District is for all students to achieve their potential and become productive citizens. The community of Kirksville has consistently supported this mission resulting in the School District earning the highest level of state accreditation for the past ten years. This level of sustained achievement has been achieved by less than 5% of Missouri’s public schools. The nearly 2500 students of the Kirksville Public School District attend classes on the 110 acre school campus, located in the southeast section of Kirksville. With over 240 certified staff members, the campus is home to an early childhood center, primary school, elementary school, middle school, high school, and a regional career and technical center.

Moberly Area Community College—Kirksville Campus

Moberly Area Community College (MACC) is an institution of higher education which provides open admission to students. MACC fosters excellence in learning through innovative educational programs and services that are geographically and financially accessible throughout the service region.

The MACC - Kirksville Higher Education Center is a 28,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that provides a modern educational facility for the College’s programs in northeast Missouri. The building houses various classrooms, computer labs, and science labs as well as, the Missouri Career Center-Kirksville. MACC is committed to providing accessible educational opportunities in northeast Missouri. With variety of day and evening classes, MACC is able to help both traditional and non-traditional students earn their degree.

Truman State University

Founded in 1867, Truman State University is a public liberal arts & sciences institution. Truman State University has been recognized for the past fourteen years as the No. 1 Public University in the Midwest Region by U.S. News & World Report’s edition of “America’s Best Colleges”. Truman State University’s 140-acre campus is home to 5,600 undergraduates and 240 graduate student. The only public liberal arts & sciences college in Missouri, Truman State University is committed to the advancement of knowledge, to freedom of thought and inquiry, and to the personal, social, and intellectual growth of its students.

A.T. Still University

Kirksville, Missouri is known as the home of osteopathic medicine. In 1874, Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D.O., founded a philosophy of medicine based on ideas that date back to Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, and which focuses on the unity of the body. Osteopathic physicians take a whole person approach to caring for patients. Instead of treating specific problems or illnesses, they regard the body as an integrated whole. Founded in Kirksville in 1892, A.T. Still University of Health Sciences (ATSU) is the oldest osteopathic institution in the world. Kirksville has graduated more than 15,000 D.O.’s from the Kirksville campus. ATSU’s investment in experienced faculty and state-of-the-art technology contribute to its reputation as one of the best multidisciplinary healthcare educators in the nation. Specifically, ATSU is recognized as one of America’s preeminent centers of excellence in geriatric health, intergenerational healthcare, rural practice methodologies, and applied wellness education.
